New Food City Planned for Powell, TN

ABINGDON, VA (Wednesday, December 5, 2012) – Earlier today, company officials broke ground on the new Food City to be constructed on New Emory Road in Powell, TN.  The 52,000+ square foot retail supermarket is expected to open Spring 2013.

“The residents of Powell and the surrounding region have been extremely supportive of Food City and we are excited to have the opportunity to construct a new, larger state-of-the-art location to serve the community,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

The location will include a bakery/deli, complete with hot food bar and large café seating area; Food City Floral Boutique, staffed with a floral designer seven days per week and offering a full assortment of fresh-cut floral arrangements, bouquets, gift items and more; full service seafood and meat departments, stocked with a wide variety of pre-marinated and seasoned oven ready products and a complete selection of top quality meats that are all-natural with no solutions added, including Certified Angus Beef; in-house meat cutters to hand cut steaks and fresh meat to order; expanded grocery, frozen food, produce and health & beauty care departments; and rapid checkout service provided by eight traditional check-out lanes, one express lane and four self-check-outs.

For added convenience, the store will offer an in-store bank, Food City Pharmacy, equipped with a drive-thru for greater ease in prescription services and a Food City Gas N’ Go with a large five pump station, including diesel fuel.  The new location will also feature several award winning energy saving concepts, ranging from energy efficient glass cooler doors, parking lot lights and refrigeration systems to motion sensors, LED lighting and a new skylight system that automatically dims the lights based upon the level of natural lighting for maximum energy efficiency.

“Our customers can expect to find the same smiling faces, top quality products and competitive pricing they have come to expect from Food City, housed in a more energy efficient model,” says Smith.
