Food City Pharmacist Receives John McNiel Award (Knoxville)

ABINGDON, VA (Wednesday, April 24, 2013) – David Miller, D.Ph., pharmacist for the Fairfield Glade Food City in Crossville, TN was recently named the recipient of the 2013 John McNiel Customer Service Award.

“Food City is dedicated to providing our customers with exceptional customer service and exceeding their expectations,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.  “David is a devoted pharmacist who is especially passionate about the importance of educating his customers on the proper use of their medications.  He is an asset to our company and his community as a whole.”

Each year, Food City recognizes a pharmacist from each of their two operating divisions for their outstanding customer service achievements.  Miller, who was also listed in Guide to America’s Top Pharmacists 2006 issue, was named this year’s award recipient for the Knoxville Operating Division.

The award was established in honor of John McNiel, Food City’s first pharmacist.  The company opened their pilot pharmacy location in Harlan, KY in 1997.  McNiel’s huge success, due primarily to his outstanding customer service and care for his patients, led in large part to the company’s expansion of the pharmacy concept.  Today, Food City operates 77 pharmacies throughout their 105 store supermarket chain.

“I was truly honored to receive such a prestigious award from Food City Pharmacy,” says Miller.  “It came as quite a surprise to me that I was chosen over all of  my highly qualified colleagues.”

With over sixteen years of pharmacy experience, Miller is a graduate of Madisonville, TN High School and Hiwassee College of Monroe, TN.  He received his degree from the McWhorter School of Pharmacy in Birmingham, AL.  Miller is a native of Tennessee.  He currently resides in Crossville, TN with his lovely wife of seven years and their precious three year old daughter.

“It’s a pleasure recognizing someone so dedicated to their profession,” says Mickey Blazer, Director of Pharmacy Operations for Food City.  “David has a strong desire to improve the quality of life for his patients and play a major role in their healthcare.  It’s an honor to be able to present this award to David.”

Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. (Food City’s parent company) operates 105 retail supermarkets throughout the tri-state regions of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
