Vonore Food City Set to Open

ABINGDON, VA (Thursday, May 9, 2013) – Shelves are stocked in preparation for the May 15th opening of the new Food City on Highway 411 in Vonore, TN.  Customers will get their first look at the 47,000+ square foot unit when the doors open Wednesday morning.

“We are extremely excited to be joining the Vonore retail community.  We have certainly enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the surrounding region and look forward to meeting and serving the residents of Tellico Village and the Vonore area,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

The new location includes a bakery/deli, complete with hot food bar, large café seating area, fresh pizza shop and expanded cheese selection; Food City Floral Boutique, staffed with a floral designer seven days per week and offering a large assortment of fresh-cut floral arrangements, bouquets, gift items and more; full service seafood and meat departments, stocked with a wide variety of pre-marinated and seasoned oven ready products and a complete selection of top quality meats that are all-natural with no solutions added, including Certified Angus Beef; in-house meat cutters to hand cut steaks and fresh meat to order; expanded grocery, frozen food, produce and health & beauty care departments; and rapid checkout service provided by seven traditional check-out lanes, one express lane and four self-check-outs.

For added convenience, the store offers a Food City Pharmacy, equipped with a drive-thru for greater ease in prescription services and a Food City Gas N’ Go with a large five pump station, including diesel fuel.  The new location also features several award winning energy saving concepts, ranging from energy efficient glass cooler doors, parking lot lights and refrigeration systems to motion sensors, LED lighting and a new skylight system that automatically dims the lights based upon the level of natural lighting for maximum energy efficiency.

“Our customers will find the same smiling faces, top quality products and competitive pricing they have come to expect from Food City, housed in a more energy efficient model,” says Smith.
