ABINGDON, VA (Thursday, May 30, 2013) – Jimbo May, produce manager for the S. Williamson, Kentucky Food City was recently named among the 2013 Retail Produce Manager of the Year Award Winners. Each year, United Fresh Produce Association recognizes the top 25 produce managers within the industry during their annual convention. This year’s convention was held at the San Diego, CA Convention Center, May 14-16.
“These men and women represent the “best of the best” in our industry,” said Tom Stenzel, United Fresh President & CEO. “Through their creative efforts and interaction with customers, they’re making produce a centerpiece of the retail shopping experience and wowing consumers everyday.”
The candidates were selected from hundreds of nominations submitted by supermarket chains, commissaries and independent retail stores throughout the industry. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the areas of produce merchandising/marketing, community service and commitment to total customer satisfaction.
May is a talented merchandiser, who specializes in cross-merchandising between departments throughout the store. He is committed to achieving 100% customer satisfaction, working to answer any questions they may have, allowing them to sample products and providing them with health and nutritional information on an ongoing basis. He is also committed to serving his community and participates in numerous events such as, Relay for Life, local school tours, Christmas for Kids, Salad for the Schools, My Plate program, promoting awareness at the local WIC office and various community events. May is committed to educating and raising awareness on the importance of incorporating fruits and vegetables into your diet. May also hosts departmental tours for all of the area schools, explaining the importance of eating healthy and introducing children to different items within the department.
