New Bristol Food City Set to Open

ABINGDON, VA (Friday, February 17, 2012) – Shelves are stocked in preparation for the February 22nd opening of the new Food City on Euclid Avenue in Bristol, VA.  Customers will get their first look at the 58,000+ square foot unit when the doors open Wednesday morning.  The store will replace the existing location and is the largest ever constructed by the company.  Food City currently operates five Bristol locations.

“The residents of Bristol and the surrounding region have been extremely supportive of Food City and as the area continues to grow and expand, we are thrilled to add another state-of-the-art location to serve the community,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

The new supermarket includes a unique 8,000 square foot second story, complete with a full demonstration kitchen (similar to that of the Eastman Road location in Kingsport, TN), along with a 100+ seating capacity Community Room, which will be available to area civic groups in need of meeting facilities or for bridal showers, birth day celebrations, etc.

The location features a bakery/deli, complete with hot food bar and large 84 seat café; Food City Floral Boutique, staffed with a floral designer seven days per week and offering a full assortment of fresh-cut floral arrangements, bouquets, gift items and more; full service seafood and meat departments, stocked with a wide variety of pre-marinated and seasoned oven ready products and a complete selection of top quality meats that are all-natural with no solutions added, including Certified Angus Beef; in-house meat cutters to hand cut steaks and fresh meat to order; expanded grocery, frozen food, produce and health & beauty care departments; and rapid checkout service provided by nine traditional check out lanes, one express lane and six self check-outs.  For added convenience, the Food City Pharmacy is equipped with a drive-thru for greater ease in prescription services and the Food City Gas N’ Go features a large five pump station.

The store is also equipped with several new energy saving concepts, including energy efficient glass cooler doors, parking lot lights and refrigeration systems, motion sensors, LED lighting and a new a skylight system that automatically dims the lights based upon the level of natural lighting for maximum energy efficiency.  Additionally, the interior décor package features ECO friendly polished concrete floors that require no waxing.

“Our customers can expect to find the same smiling faces, top quality products and competitive pricing they have come to expect from Food City, housed in our most energy efficient model and latest floor plan design,” says Smith.
