As summer heats up, so does the harvest from local growers, and there’s no better time to enjoy the vibrant, flavorful fruits and vegetables grown right here in our region. From juicy tomatoes to crisp cucumbers, the summer season brings an abundance of produce that’s not only delicious but also packed with nutrition.

Quality Local Agriculture

Food City is proud to support local agriculture through its Local Growers program. By partnering with nearby growers, which ensures customers receive produce that is harvested at peak freshness and delivered directly to store shelves.

Higher Nutritional Content

When you buy local, you’re not only getting better flavor, but you’re also getting higher nutritional value, because the produce spends less time in transit and storage.

Hardworking Growers

We’re proud to spotlight these local growers and bring their harvests to your table. Eating seasonally is a simple, tasty way to care for your health and support your community at the same time.

Tomatoes from Mann Farms of Fort Blackmore, Virginia. These tomatoes come in all shapes and colors and are packed with lycopene, an antioxidant linked to heart health. Perfect for sandwiches, salads, or fresh salsa.

Cucumbers from Stratton Tomato Farms in Rutledge, TN. Crisp and hydrating, these cucumbers are packed with vitamin K which aids in bone and blood health. Try them in a cucumber salad or slice them up with a touch of sea salt and vinegar for a simple summer snack.

Green Bell Peppers from Slaughter Farms in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Vibrant and crispy, they provide lots of vitamin C, supporting a strong immune system. Grill them, stuff them, or chop them into your favorite stir-fry.

Shopping your local produce section isn’t just good for your health, it’s also a meaningful way to support the hardworking growers in your own backyard. These are the people who plant, pick, and deliver the fruits of their labor straight to your table.

Food City customers can look for “Local Growers” signs in produce sections to identify locally sourced items.
