Food City Pharmacist Receives John McNiel Award
Abingdon, VA. - Monday, Apr 25, 2016.

Brent Scott, R.Ph., pharmacy manager for the Paintsville, KY Food City is the recipient of the 2015 John McNiel Customer Service Award.

“Food City is dedicated to providing our loyal customers with exceptional customer service.  We created the John McNiel Award to recognize pharmacists who embody that commitment,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.  “Brent is devoted to his customers and ensuring they receive the best possible care and service.  He is a tremendous asset, not only to our company, but to the region as a whole, and we certainly congratulate him on this great honor.”

Each year, Food City recognizes a pharmacist from their two operating divisions for their outstanding customer service achievements.  Scott was named this year’s award recipient for Food City’s Tri-Cities Division.  The award was established in honor of John McNiel, Food City’s  first pharmacist.  The company opened their pilot pharmacy location in Harlan, KY in 1997.  McNiel’s huge success, due primarily to his outstanding customer service and care for his patients, led in large part to the company’s expansion of the pharmacy concept.  Today, Food City operates 101 pharmacies throughout their 135 store supermarket chain.

“I am honored to work for a great company, with such a dedicated team of associates.  We are committed to providing exceptional customer service, by going the extra mile to assist our customers in every way possible and serving them as family and friends,” says Scott.

Born and raised in eastern Kentucky, Scott conducted his undergraduate studies at Prestonsburg Community College, Morehead State and finally the University of Wyoming, where he attended pharmacy school.  He joined the Food City team in the fall of 2003.  Scott served at several of Food City’s Kentucky pharmacy locations before assuming his current role as pharmacy manager for their Paintsville location in May of 2012.  He is also active in his local church, where he serves as a bus driver.  He and his lovely wife Crystal, who is a nurse practitioner at Pikeville Medical Center have two beautiful children, Harper and Braxton.

“At Food City Pharmacy, our mission is to run the best pharmacy in town and Brent has always exemplified that goal.  He strives to take care of his patients in the most professional and ethical manner possible,” says Will Bevins, Food City director of pharmacy operations.

Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores (Food City’s parent company) operates 135 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, Chattanooga and north Georgia.
