Bucky Slagle Heads up Food City’s Produce & Floral Operations

Food City recently announced that Bucky Slagle, vice president of food service and Starbucks will be taking on the additional responsibility of oversite of the company’s produce and floral operations in his new role as vice president of food service, Starbucks, produce & floral operations. Slagle brings over 38 years of industry knowledge and experience to this key role. He replaces Joe Greene, who was recently promoted to executive vice president of store operations for Food City’s Knoxville Division.

With his prior experience as vice president of produce & floral operations, this is a natural progression for him given his extensive knowledge and experience. He understands our products, our people, and is an outstanding merchant. We would like to congratulate Bucky as he takes on these additional responsibilities within our company,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City chief executive officer and president.

Slagle joined the Food City team in 1988, enrolling in the company’s Assistant Store Manager Training Program. He served as an assistant store manager for two years, before being promoted to store manager, serving in that capacity for six years. Slagle was promoted to district manager in 1998, responsible for the oversight of 13 supermarket locations throughout the Knoxville, TN market area. In 2016, he was promoted to vice president of produce and floral operations. He assumed the role as vice president of food service and Starbucks operations in 2023. In his new role, Slagle will be responsible for the oversite of food service, Starbucks, produce & floral operations for the company’s entire fleet of 163 retail locations which span the five-state region of southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, north Georgia, and Alabama.

Slagle received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emory and Henry College. He currently resides in Gray, TN with his lovely wife, Amiee. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Aliee and Emilee.
