Earlier today, company officials broke ground on the new Food City on Market Terrace in Oneonta, AL. The 50,000+ square‑foot supermarket is expected to open next spring.

“We are excited to be joining the Oneonta retail community. We look forward to constructing a new state‑of‑the‑art Food City to serve the residents of Oneonta and Blount County,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

The new location will feature an in‑store bakery and deli with a hot food bar, large café seating area, fireplace, fresh food bar with soups, salads, and fruit, a hickory‑wood smoker, cheese shop, and fresh sushi. Customers will also find full‑service meat and seafood departments offering top‑quality meats, Certified Angus Beef, and in‑house butchers to hand‑cut steaks and fresh meat to order. Expanded grocery, frozen food, and produce departments will offer a wide selection of specialty, gourmet, and vegan items.

The Food City floral boutique - staffed by a designer seven days a week – will offer fresh‑cut arrangements, bouquets, gift items, and more. Rapid checkout service will be provided by five traditional checkout lanes and seven self‑checkout stations. Curbside pickup and home delivery will be available for online shoppers. Additional amenities will include a Food City Pharmacy, Gas ‘n Go fuel center with top‑quality fuel and diesel, and a Starbuck café serving a full line of hot and cold coffees and beverages.

The store will also incorporate several award‑winning energy‑saving features, including energy‑efficient glass cooler doors, 100% LED lighting, motion sensors, upgraded refrigeration systems, and efficient parking lot lighting.
