Food City Customers Donate $7,500 to Aid Local Tornado Relief Efforts
Abingdon, VA. - Friday, Feb 3, 2017.

Earlier this week, Food City officials presented three local agencies with checks to aid in Athens/McMinn County tornado relief efforts.  The monies derived from a fundraising campaign recently hosted at Food City’s Etowah location.

The Etowah Food City accepted monetary donations at the checkout from November 30th through December 10th.  100% of the funds collected were donated to three local relief agencies – Coordinated Charities, People Helping People and United Way of McMinn/Meigs County.  Each agency received a check in the amount of $2,500 for a grand total of $7,500.

“Many of our friends and neighbors have been devastated by this tragedy,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.  “We would like to thank our loyal customers and associates for their support in this critical mission.”
