Food City Pharmacist Receives John McNiel Award
Abingdon, VA. - Wednesday, Apr 12, 2017.

Bryan Fields, Pharm.D., pharmacy manager for the S. Williamson, KY Food City was recently named the recipient of the 2017 John McNiel Customer Service Award.

“Food City is dedicated to providing our loyal customers with exceptional customer service.  We created the John McNiel Award to recognize pharmacists who embody that commitment,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.  “Bryan is devoted to his customers and ensuring they receive the best possible care and service.  He is a tremendous asset, not only to our company, but to the region as a whole, and we certainly congratulate him on this great honor.”

Each year, Food City recognizes a pharmacist from their two operating divisions for their outstanding customer service achievements.  Fields was named this year’s award recipient for Food City’s Tri-Cities Division.  The award was established in honor of John McNiel, Food City’s  first pharmacist.  The company opened their pilot pharmacy location in Harlan, KY in 1997.  McNiel’s huge success, due primarily to his outstanding customer service and care for his patients, led in large part to the company’s expansion of the pharmacy concept.  Today, Food City operates 101 pharmacies throughout their 134 store supermarket chain.

“It is an honor and privilege to receive the John McNiel award.  It is an endowment of great customer care, which is something that we all strive for.  I want to thank our patients for choosing us as their pharmacy.  Your placement of trust in us is an honor of its own,” says Fields.

Fields is a graduate of Appalachian College of Pharmacy.  He served seven years as a pharmacy technician, six years as a relief pharmacist and over three years in his current role as pharmacy manager for Food City.  He is also active within his community and coaches a youth basketball team.  Bryan and his lovely wife, Christy currently reside in Ransom, KY with their three children Emmett, Farrah and Collin.

“At Food City Pharmacy, our mission is to run the best pharmacy in town and Bryan has always exemplified that goal.  He strives to take care of his patients in the most professional and ethical manner possible,” says Mickey Blazer, executive vice president of pharmacy and fuel operations for Food City.
