Prestonsburg Food City Expansion
Abingdon, VA. - Monday, Mar 25, 2019.

Company officials recently announced plans for a significant expansion/remodel to the Food City in Prestonsburg, KY.  The project will result in the addition of 10,900+ square feet of retail space, bringing the total square footage to 50,600+.  While completion is not expected until early next year, the project is scheduled to get underway this summer.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to enlarge our Prestonsburg location to better serve our loyal customers.  In addition to the expansion, we will also be able to enhance our parking area for our customer’s convenience,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.  “Our customers will find the same smiling faces, top quality products, exceptional customer service and competitive pricing they have come to expect from Food City, along with enhanced variety/selection and some exciting new services,” said Smith.

Expansion plans include the addition of a Starbucks Café, offering a wide assortment of blended hot and cold coffees and beverages, including seasonal favorites and an assortment of tasty breakfast sandwiches and pastries.  The location will be among the first to include an Asian Kitchen, featuring full service Asian cuisine prepared fresh daily with authentic wok cookery.  Authentic hand-tossed pizzas, made-to-order with fresh ingredients and a hickory wood smoker, offering a variety of tasty smoked meats will be available, as well as fresh sushi.  The produce, dairy and frozen food departments will also be expanded to allow for added variety/selection.

“The new enlarged departments will allow us to significantly increase the variety and selection of products we are able to offer,” says store manager, Adam Baldridge.  “I would like to thank our loyal customers in advance for their understanding during the construction process.  We are very excited about the additional services and selection the expansion will bring and I’m confident that once complete, they will agree it was well worth the wait.”
