Food City Pet Club Supports Johnson City/Washington County, TN Animal Shelter
Abingdon, VA. -
Tuesday, Nov 4, 2014.
Earlier today, Food City officials presented the Johnson City/Washington County, TN Animal Shelter with a check in the amount of $41,749.97 to assist with the construction of their new facility currently underway.
“The Johnson City/Washington County Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing a new facility to meet the needs of more of our local abused and abandoned animals by providing rescue, rehabilitation and adoptive placement of companion animals,” says Steve Smith, Food City’s president and chief executive officer. “Food City is excited to partner with our valued customers in support of this much needed facility.”
The funds derived from a special campaign conducted by the company from September 3rd through September 30th. Special $1, $3, and $5 scanable cards were available for sale at the checkouts of participating area Food City locations during the promotion. Customers wishing to make a donation simply selected the desired dollar amount and it was conveniently added to their grocery bill. Pre-packaged pet food bags to donate to the shelter were also available for sale, and Food City donated .50¢ from the sale of participating PAWS and Chuck Wagon pet food products.
“While the existing shelter has well served the community for a number of years, with the growing population, it has quickly outgrown its space. A number of healthy dogs and cats must be euthanized every day due to the lack of space. The new facility will provide the added space and services desperately needed,” adds Smith.
