Food City Supports Paralyzed Veterans of America’s Mission: ABLE
Bristol, VA. - Wednesday, Nov 19, 2014.

Food City officials recently presented Paralyzed Veterans of America’s Mission: ABLE project with a check in the amount of $100,000.

For several years the retailer has partnered with seven-time NASCAR Champion, Richard Petty, to host the annual fundraising campaign. “If there has been one partner that has really stepped up to help Paralyzed Veterans of America’s Mission: ABLE project, it is Food City,” Petty said.

“Thanks to our loyal customers, we have raised over $350,000 in the last three years to benefit Paralyzed Veterans of America,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer. “And this year we are proud to make yet another substantial contribution in support of this worthy cause.”

For almost 70 years, Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans) has worked to change lives and build brighter futures for our most seriously injured heroes. The Mission: ABLE campaign was designed to enlist Americans—citizens, communities and corporations—to help ensure that our paralyzed heroes are provided the physical care needed to live a healthy life; receive the benefits they’ve earned through military service; and obtain job training and opportunities for new and fulfilling careers.

The campaign began August 30, 2014, and continued through October 11, 2014. Customers wishing to make a contribution simply selected the desired dollar amount—$1, $3, or $5, and it was conveniently added to their order total. One hundred percent of the donations collected will remain local and will benefit Paralyzed Veterans within the region.

“We are extremely grateful for Food City’s dedication and on-going support of Paralyzed Veterans and our members,” said Al Kovach, national president of Paralyzed Veterans. “Food City’s fundraising efforts in support of Paralyzed Veterans of America are an integral aspect of our mission to provide care and services for our nation’s veterans and also to raise awareness and engage the public in our efforts. Food City’s consistent work on our behalf is greatly appreciated.”

About Paralyzed Veterans of America:

Paralyzed Veterans of America is the only congressionally chartered veterans service organization dedicated solely for the benefit and representation of veterans with spinal cord injury or disease. For nearly 70 years, we have ensured that veterans have received the benefits earned through their service to our nation; monitored their care in VA spinal cord injury units; and funded research and education in the search for a cure and improved care for individuals with paralysis.

As a partner for life, Paralyzed Veterans also develops training and career services, works to ensure accessibility in public buildings and spaces, provides health and rehabilitation opportunities through sports and recreation, and advocates for veterans and all people with disabilities. With more than 70 offices and 34 chapters, Paralyzed Veterans serves veterans, their families, and their caregivers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
