Galax Food City Re-Grand Opening
Abingdon,Va. - Thursday, Nov 19, 2020.

Yesterday, company officials celebrated the much-anticipated completion of a significant expansion to the Galax Food City, which also resulted in several new area jobs.

“Our customers will find the same smiling faces, top quality products, exceptional customer service and competitive pricing they have come to expect from Food City, along with some exciting new services and conveniences,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

The remodel included the addition of 11,600 sq. ft. of retail space, bringing the total square footage to over 48,000 sq. ft.  Several exciting new services were added to the location, including a Starbucks café, offering a wide assortment of blended hot and cold coffees and beverages and a fresh food bar, featuring a variety of soups, wings, salad and fruit selections.  The Pharmacy also received an extensive makeover, including the addition of a waiting area and private consultation room.  The bakery/deli was relocated and expanded, as well as the floral boutique, which offers a full assortment of fresh-cut floral arrangements, bouquets, gift items and more.  The store has been upgraded to new energy efficient cases with glass doors and 100 % LED lighting and now offers the added convenience of GoCart curbside pick-up and home delivery.

“I would like to thank our loyal customers for their patience and understanding throughout the construction process.  I think they will agree that the new additions were well worth the wait,” says store manager, Carolyn Roberts.
