Feeding Southwest Virginia Check Presentation

Feeding Southwest Virginia Check Presentation
Abingdon, VA. - Monday, Sep 27, 2021.

Today Food City made a significant donation to Feeding Southwest Virginia to help fund their Mobile Marketplace initiative.  Mobile Marketplace provides fresh food and shelf stable grocery items to communities that lack convenient access to grocery stores through the use of two refrigerated trucks.  The program serves food-insecure individuals in Southwest Virginia who live in rural areas where grocery stores are located at distances that are difficult for them to reach and lack brick and mortar pantries or other emergency food assistance.

Since 1981, Feeding Southwest Virginia has been dedicated to feeding those who face hunger in our region and strengthening the communities they serve.  Their mission is to feed Southwest Virginia’s hungry through a network of partners and engage our region in the fight to end hunger.

According to Feeding Southwest Virginia’s 2020 food insecurity projections, over 177,000 individuals in our region face hunger.  Feeding Southwest Virginia provides food and hope in partnership with 380 feeding programs.  They serve tens of thousands of men, women, and children every month, providing food assistance to those who often have nowhere else to turn.

Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores (Food City’s parent company) operates 138 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, north Georgia, and Alabama.
