Food City Teams Up With Keep Tennessee Beautiful to Support Scholarship Fund
Memphis, TN. - Thursday, Dec 3, 2015.

Keep Tennessee Beautiful (KTnB), the state affiliate for Keep America Beautiful, is pleased to announce a generous donation by Food City in support of KTnB’s new children’s book, Nancy and Sluggo Love Tennessee: A Story About Keeping Tennessee Beautiful, by legendary illustrator Guy Gilchrist.

Just in time for the holidays, the grocery retailer bought nearly 1,000 copies for its stores in Tennessee, the largest purchase of the books to date. Food City is now the first major retail outlet in the state where the books can be purchased by the public.

“We are very grateful for Food City’s support of this project,” said KTnB Executive Director Missy Marshall. “We’re excited Tennesseans now have the opportunity to obtain a copy of the book through a retail chain. These books make wonderful keepsakes, and we hope they can become a source of pride for children and families throughout the state.”

“Food City is very proud to serve as one of the first retailers to make this fantastic book available for sale to our loyal customers,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City President and Chief Executive Officer.  “Guy did a great job focusing on the beauty of the great state of Tennessee and the importance of protecting it.  We are especially excited that Food City’s Corporate Trainer, Sherrell Lyon - who is also a member of the Governor’s Keep Tennessee Beautiful Advisory Council assisted with the book.”

Proceeds from general book sales of Nancy and Sluggo Love Tennessee go towards the University of Memphis/ Keep Tennessee Beautiful Foundation. KTnB is located on the U of M campus in Memphis.

The Keep Tennessee Beautiful Foundation will utilize the funds to help establish scholarships for students seeking degrees in the environmental/sustainability fields. The money will also go towards efforts to provide community and environmental education grants for litter prevention, beautification and recycling.
