Johnson City, TN. - Friday, Apr 21, 2023.

East Tennessee State University student-athletes will be participating in a community service event on Saturday, April 22 at select Food City stores across the area to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

During this spring community day of service, ETSU student-athletes will be at four area stores helping bag groceries and raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

The Buccaneers will be at the Food City stores located on State of Franklin Road, South Roan Street, the Boones Creek location, and the store in Jonesborough. ETSU student-athletes will be at these stores from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

“Food City is proud to team up with ETSU and support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation campaign by raising funds for its annual drive,” says Kevin Stafford, Food City vice president of marketing. “We look forward to hosting this event and working with one of our local partners as they volunteer their time bagging groceries to benefit this initiative.”

“We are thrilled to have ETSU student-athletes volunteering their time for such a worthy cause,” said Trey Gilreath, Assistant Vice President/General Manager of Athletic Sponsorships at ETSU. “It will be great to see ETSU student-athletes interacting among community members, while raising additional support and awareness for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.”

ETSU student-athletes from football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, softball, triathlon, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer will be at the select stores interacting with shoppers and assisting with the bagging of groceries.

“Our athletic department is happy that we can continue to engage with the community to help raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,” said Kayla Lee, ETSU’s Assistant Athletic Director of Student Success. “Our student-athletes always enjoy the times when they can meet the fans and interact with them on a more personal level than they normally would. It’s always a great time for us and we hope the community enjoys this as much as we do.”
